Freddie Gibbs Delivers Gritty Rhymes on Melodic Song ‘Alexys’
Freddie Gibbs is officially back on his lyrical dojo after being locked up in Austria in 2016. His incarceration overseas hasn’t affected his rhyme skills. On Sunday (March 26), fans were treated with a new track called “Alexys.”
Produced by Kaytranada and BadBadNotGood, the song features a melodic loop with the Indiana rhymer detailing his gritty journey as a street hustler and the occupational hazards that come with it.
"I first taste cocaine in the tenth grade / Homie at the table chopping up Rick James / Sent the package off from Texas its been six days / Keep sweating like a pig until that s--- came / Didn't hurt to keep a job living off in my momma's spot / F--- it I'mma bust a f---ing jug, I'm a juggernaut," he raps about his early hustling days in the 'hood.
Gibbs goes deeper as he spits more cautionary lyrics on the hook. “I got cake bitch can’t everyday be my birthda / You can’t take me off first place on my worst day / Streets dry n----s thirsty / So I pray that when they come and take me that this mini Draco make the Earth shake / I’ve been working on this underneath the Earth s--- / My n---- caught a murder on his first day,” he spits.
This new song comes as Gibbs prepares to drop his long-awaited album, You Only Live 2wice, which is the follow-up to his 2015 effort, Shadow of a Doubt. The eight-song collection, which drops on March 31, boasts the previously released tune, “Crushed Glass.” Gibbs also dropped a freestyle track as well.
