Flavor Flav Denies Writing Bad Checks to Employees
After being open for just over two months, it seems as though Flavor Flav's chicken restaurant might not be as profitable as he, or his employees, would have hoped.
According to reports, employees have been unable to cash their paychecks from the Clinton, Iowa chicken joint. "My check was only $150 and they couldn't even cash it," employee Kelly Butler told local news station WQAD. "If he can't pay his employees why should we give our time for him to make money?"
Butler and another employee, Kim Kostka, both claim to be owed three week's worth of back pay from the establishment. "They're closing our accounts on Friday and now I'm screwed, I can't pay my rent, can't pay my bills," Kostka added.
Owner Nick Cimino, who along with Flav, hosted their official grand opening over the weekend, explained that the payment issues were just a malfunction in the accounting system. "We had a little glitch in the credit cards, we had a couple that did bounce that happens to any new business," Cimino said. "We stopped taking credit cards as soon as I found out." He also theorized that the claims were merely a ploy brought on by disgruntled former employees.
Flav also did his part to clear up any confusion. "It's not true information first of all and second of all maybe these are people that's just jealous of me being here and probably want to see me out," he added. "Yes, we do have money in our accounts."
The Public Enemy hype man-turned-reality TV star opened Flav's Fried Chicken in late January. Since then 15 to 20 employees have been fired for various reasons.
