Erykah Badu Delivers Flawless Remix of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’
Can Erykah Badu be any greater than she already is? The answer is yes. The neo-soul songbird releases a seamless remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling." The new mix, titled, "HOTLINE BLING BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE MIX," is a blend of Drizzy's 2015 jam with her 1997 signature song, "Tyrone."
And of course, the song comes with her own spin on the Toronto rhymer's tune. Instead of "you used to call me on my cell phone," Badu uses "cellular device" as she breaks down every syllable. The Texas native also adds a southern feel to the song.
The mix doesn't go without some jokes either as she drops her faux (or real) answering machine in the middle of the song.
"You've reached the Erykah Badu hotline," the automated voice says before proceeding to list different commands for her callers. "If you're calling for some s--- in general, press four," and "If you're calling to ask for some free tickets for a city near you and knows she don't really f--- with you like that, press seven," are some of the best lines.
Fans should expect more from the Queen too. According to the SoundCloud description, the song is but one of many from her upcoming mixtape, BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE.
Badu hasn't released an album in five years and her followers are loving the new sounds from the "Love of My Life" singer.
"this will be on reeeeepppppeeaatttt," tweeted one. "Ms. Badu did that!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! I want to buy it right NOW!!!!! Can't wait for her MIXTAPE!," tweeted another. Sam Smith, Kehlani and Charlie Puth have also covered the song.
