Da Brat $7.7 Million in Debt, Files for Bankruptcy
Da Brat has filed for bankruptcy.
According to The Blast, the veteran rapper claims to have assets totaling $108,700.65, but liabilities that add up to a whopping $7,782,249.57.
A large chunk of that debt ($6.4 million) comes from money she still owes Shayla Stevens, who she hit with a bottle in a nightclub back in 2007. Stevens suffered facial scarring and neurological impairment as a result of the attack. Da Brat spent three years in prison for the incident.
As for her debt, Da Brat also reportedly owes $1,255,128 to Sony Music and $12,000 to Ally Bank. She also has $2,284 in credit card debt, and also owes $2,284 to the Georgia Department of Revenue.
In terms of her assets, she owns three vehicles—a 1999 Mercedes 238i worth $5,000, a 2014 BMW 328i worth $15,000 and a 2016 Jeep Wrangler worth $23,000. Even though her monthly income as an entertainer/radio personality is $9,319, her expenses total $10,506.55 a month. That leaves her $1,187 in the hole each month.
Last year, Brat reportedly made $106,000, and has earned $75,000 this year thus far—she's currently a co-host on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show and also serves as co-host on Dish Nation, a nightly pop culture news program.
The bankruptcy case is reportedly still pending.
