Chuck D Feels Meek Mill’s Music After Prison Should Carry ‘a Message’ [VIDEO]

Hours after Meek Mill was released from prison on Tuesday (April 24), the hip-hop community has been showing support for the embattled rapper on and off social media. Meanwhile, hip-hop’s most revered elder statesman Chuck D feels that Mill is a changed man after his ordeal.

In an interview with TMZ, the Public Enemy frontman says that Mill is not the same man he once was when he first went to prison five months ago.

"I think Meek has grown from this," said Chuck D. "I don't think he can go back into the man he was. The man he is now is different from the boy he was."

When asked if the Philly rapper will now start making music with a more positive message, Chuck D responded that Meek will, and won't lose his core audience in the process.

"It's a misnomer when people say I'll lose my core audience because if I go the way of saying something positive people [won't care]," he explains. "I think that's the biggest piece of bullshit that a record company can ever tell an artist."

"When you come from the people, you speak for the people," he continued. "It shouldn't be measured by the dollars and cents that a [record company] is throwing at you."
