Cardi B Inks Publishing Deal With Sony/ATV: ‘Bodak Yellow Is Only the Beginning’

Cardi B is making some serious money moves. The Bronx native has secured herself a worldwide publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

As for what this deal means to the “Bodak Yellow” rapper -- it means more checks, basically. With this pact, Cardi’s songs will be available for licensing and branding deals. In addition, she can sell tunes to other artists.

"[Cardi B] one of a rare breed of unique artists who the industry only witnesses occasionally," said Sony/ATV co-president Rick Krim in the announcement (via Billboard).

Cardi B added, "Oooo, I'm so happy to be with my new family Sony/ATV. 'Bodak Yellow' is only the beginning and we're just getting started."

Cardi B became the first unassisted female rapper reach the apex of Billboard Hot 100 chart in nearly 19 years with "Bodak Yellow. The song spent three weeks at No. 1 spot, marking a new longevity record for a hit by an unaccompanied female rapper. However, Cardi was dethroned this week by Post Malone's "Rockstar" featuring 21 Savage. Still, it remains No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.

Now that Cardi B has signed a publishing deal with Sony/ATV, this squashes any rumors that she hired a ghostwriter to pen her chart-topping hit. The 25-year-old rapper went on her Instagram page to let the haters know that she's still making money moves.

"Thank you THANK YOU @sony. I'm happy to be a part of your brand and looking forward to working with you !!" she wrote. "When [haters] be poppin shit under my comments like oooo 'she don’t write her shit' sooo how I got a publishing deal then?!!!! Too much mufuckas done doubted me that’s why I have to just prove it."
