BET Hip Hop Awards 2014 Red Carpet: Best & Worst Dressed [PHOTOS]
When it's time to dress for an awards show, stars love to show off their signature style. And at the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards today (Sept. 20), it was no different.
With so many rappers set to blow the roof off the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center with their performances, spitters like Common, T.I. and Snoop Dogg went for comfort rather than being dapper gentlemen. While the guys went for more casual yet sleek looks, the ladies experimented with different styles. From the classic cocktail dress to the more relaxed pants look, stars like Lil Mama and Tiny proved that the red carpet is the place to show off and show out.
Of course, like every red carpet round-up, there are some fatal misses that made us wonder, "What were they thinking?"
Although the show won't air on BET until Oct. 14, The Boombox has gathered all the best and worst looks from the red carpet. Check them out below.
Best Dressed: Bow Wow
With red carpet hosting duties, Bow Wow really had to look his best. Going for all-black with a pop of color on his sneakers, he made sure to standout with all the details from the gold chains and buttons to the quilting in his jacket and pants.
Best Dressed: Tiny
Tiny went for sexy sophistication in a little black A-line dress and over-the-knee leopard print boots. While she's clearly putting the girls on full display with that neckline, it's not shocking. She's got them so why not flaunt them.
Worst Dressed: Ne-Yo
While we give props to Ne-Yo for rocking a Dizzy Gillespie T-shirt and his signature hat, the patchwork jeans and that confusing vest (with the velvet lining on the back) have got to go.
Best Dressed: Lil Mama
Lil Mama's choice for this year's awards won't win everyone's vote for "Best Dressed," but we can't say no to it. She takes a risk with the asymmetrical theme in the color and design. However, with the simple makeup and hairstyle, the potential for this outfit to look like a costume reduces significantly and is a great look on the rapper-actress.
Best Dressed: Big K.R.I.T.
Big K.R.I.T. was feeling monochromatic on the red carpet, and we love it. From the leather jacket to the boots, the rapper owns this all-black everything ensemble.
Best Dressed: Common
If there's someone who looks as similar as he did when he first entered the rap game, it's Common. Wearing white kicks, dark jeans, a sweatshirt and shades, he looks crisp, clean and ready for his performance onstage.
Worst Dressed: Busta Rhymes
While Busta Rhymes is a muscular dude, that abstract painting on his T-shirt is definitely not doing anything for his figure.
Worst Dressed: T.I.
T.I. may have missed the mirror before heading out to the show tonight because we're not sure how he didn't realize pulling his blue socks up high and wearing those patchwork camo shorts wasn't a good idea.
Worst Dressed: Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg may be the host at this year's awards, but he didn't seem to look like one on the red carpet. Going for a plain T-shirt and jeans, we expected more pizzazz from the rapper. And even though he gets points for the funny shirt (read: Uncle Snoop Wants You!), he lost it all with those teal patent leather loafers.
Worst Dressed: French Montana
French Montana is a Michael Jordan fan, no doubt, but we didn't expect for him to showcase his fandom for the basketball legend in such a blatant way -- hat and jersey. No matter how much you bling out your outfit -- look at all those gold chains -- you should wear this courtside not on the red carpet.
Worst Dressed: Teyana Taylor
Leather is always a fun choice for the red carpet, however, Teyana Taylor's undergarment selection is not. We'd like to see her in something a little less sheer and stick more to the theme of her look -- all leather, no lace.
Best Dressed: MC Lyte
MC Lyte is a great example of taking something like a men's baseball jacket and giving it the feminine twist by pairing it with accessories and a red lip.
Best Dressed: Ty Dolla $ign
Ty Dolla $ign proves two things: guys who stick to one color pallet can never lose and simple is always best.
Worst Dressed: 2 Chainz
2 Chainz is easily one of the more fashion forward rappers in the game right now. But he seems to miss the mark on this one with that patterned cropped blazer -- at least Skooly looks like a nice accessory standing next to him.
Worst Dressed: Nelly
Nelly, the early 2000s called, they want their velour track suit back.
