This is it. A Tribe Called Quest bids farewell as a music collective with their new video “The Space Program.” The song is from the group’s final album, We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service, in memory of the their beloved member Phife Dawg.
In the intergalactic clip, directed by Warren Fu, Q-Tip portrays an astronaut who is traveling through space as he plays chess against an mysterious white politician (Agent Orange is that you?). Throughout the video, images of riots and racist imagery flashes on small television screens.
Meanwhile, ATCQ rapper Jarobi White appears in the visual wearing nomadic gear while delivering his verse. Phife Dawg's lyrics are channeled through a green sphere.
Elsewhere, fellow artists Pharrell, Common, Alicia Keys, Questlove, Rosario Dawson, Consequence, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae and more make cameos and rap the song's urgent hook, "It’s time to go left and not right / Gotta get it together forever / Gotta get it together for brothers / Gotta get it together for sisters / For mothers and fathers and dead niggas."
The "Space Program" clip is currently viewable via Apple Music, but it will eventually hit YouTube and other video platforms later.
