Young Thug compared fellow lyricist Chance the Rapper to Prince. While that is a high compliment, the way Thugga delivered it was a bit jarring if you read it in the wrong context.

Young Thug collaborated with the Chicago native on the song “Mixtape” from his fantastic project, Coloring Book. So during his interview at the 2016 BET Awards, Young Thug was asked about his collaboration and if people are sleeping on Chance. The Atlanta rhymer responded that people are always going to sleep on him.

He then added, “He’s gonna die like Prince. He’s gonna die a slept-on legend.”

Yikes!

Now calm down. Clearly, YT is not suggesting that Chance will die like the late music icon by way of an accidental drug overdose. However, Thugga’s response is a little puzzling.

We can honestly say that Prince didn't die as a “slept-on legend." On the contrary, the Purple One's life and music is still being celebrated and remembered and that will most likely continue through 2016 (and beyond).

Also, we must add that Chance is hardly a slept-on rapper. In fact, his latest effort, Coloring Book, has been his most critically-praised project to date. And now that the Recording Academy is allowing streaming albums to be nominated, his project is a shoo-in to get mentioned in the Best Rap Album category at the very least.

Understandably, Young Thug doesn't feel that the Acid Rap creator is getting his just due. However, we think that will change as Chance the Rapper continues to evolve in his music career.
