Hot off the release of their album Dec. 99th, Yasiin Bey and Ferrari Sheppard kicked off their short series of shows at New York City's Apollo Theater last night (Dec. 21). The series is part of Bey's farewell tour, as he announced that he's retiring from both rapping and acting.

Last night's show brought out both Slick Rick and Pharoahe Monch, much to the delight of the crowd (you can watch the show above). Among the standout tracks on the 10-song project, Dec. 99th are the reggae-infused “Shadows in the Dark,” the moody “IT GOES,” the otherworldly-sounding “Special Dedication” and the piano-driven funk of “Heri.”

The second show will take place tonight at the Apollo Theater before it heads to Washington D.C. for three nights, Dec. 31-January 2. Bey and Sheppard will also make their late-night debut on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday (Dec. 23).
