Chance The Rapper was honored with the Humanitarian Award at the 2017 BET Awards. The Chicago-based rhymer was celebrated at Microsoft Theater on June 25, 2017 in Los Angeles for his work in his community and beyond.

"I just love everything about him," BET Networks' president Debra Lee said before she presented Chance with the award. A video his work to improve education in Chicago via funding in the public schools and through his nonprofit Social Works. Michelle Obama thanked Chance with a special video message, saying that she and the former President have known Chance since he was "a wee little baby rapper."

In his acceptance speech, Chance was overwhelmed with gratitude.

"I'm 24 and to be receiving something like this at my age it feels good as hell," said Chance as he was accepting his award. "I love this. I love black people man. Gas me up, please. Gas me!"

He also acknowledged his youth and admitted that he felt he was maybe too young to get such a prestigious honor.

"I was gonna say it feels a little early to get something like this," he began. "But my God doesn't make mistakes. and I like to think he's putting this enormous pressure on me to see how I act. And I had plans to tell the world and everyone watching to make the world a better place. But my big homie Reese told me that we gotta work on ourselves before we change the world."

Chano went on to criticize release for those serving time for marijuana-related offenses and the problems in urban school districts.

The guy really goes for his and stands for something. Props to Chance.
