Toni Braxton and Tank Make Debuts on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Charts

R&B veterans Toni Braxton and Tank are enjoying major success on R&B radio.

Braxton, who just released her new album Sex & Cigarettes, saw her latest single “Long as I Live” move from 11 to 10 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Songs chart. This will mark the 50-year-old singer’s 17th top 10 song on radio. Here’s a piece of trivia: 25 years ago, Braxton nabbed her first No. 1 song on the Adult R&B Songs chart with “Another Sad Love Song.”

Meanwhile, Tank’s sensual ballad “When We” is still going on strong on urban radio. The song jumped from No. 12 to No. 6 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.

This marks Tank’s third top 10 single and his first in over a decade. His two previous top 10 hits are "Maybe I Deserve" (No. 4, 2001) and "Please Don't Go"(No. 2, 2007).

The song’s staying power might come from Tank releasing a remix to “When We,” which features Trey Songz and Ty Dolla $ign.

Tank told Essence that the sensuality on "When We" is what's missing in today's R&B genre. "It's kinda what we're, you know, what we're missing," he said. "You know, being sexy I think has taken a backseat to, I guess, shock value in a sense."
