One of the many highlights at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards was Teyana Taylor’s Flashdance-like performance in Kanye West’s “Fade” video. While the R&B singer looked fit and fabulous while dancing seductively in the visual, it did leave many fans scratching their heads. Particularly, at the end when Taylor is transformed into a cat next to her husband, Iman Shumpert, and surrounded by sheep.

In a VH1 interview, the 25-year-old artist explained the creative process behind the video. Taylor said the choreography was all freestyled but it did get usually stinky during the shoot.

"We were kinda just switching things as we went, adding things as we went,” she recalls. “I think I got pooped on by the sheep. Those hard doo doo balls and I had on all of the coconut oil and it was sticking to me. I was looking at Kanye like, 'I'm standing her naked with these damn sheep.'"

“It was a good time," she continued. "I was able to let off some steam and put all my emotions and all my excitement, all my intensity, my hard work that I’ve been giving for so long, I was able to put all of that into that moment in the movement."

As for what the "Fade" video is supposed to represent, Taylor feels the meaning might be too deep for fans to understand. "I kinda felt where [Kanye] was going with it even turning me into cat, I felt like a lioness," she said. "It's really about having it all. It reminded me of something very Biblical."

Despite being signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D Music label, Taylor admits that nobody hasn't been noticing her work, which explains why several media outlets were unable to identify her. She feels the video has brought attention to who she is as an entertainer.

“I feel like what Kanye did was open up that platform for everybody to see what I’ve been doing,” she said. “You might not know me, but they’re trying to get familiar. I don’t think anybody meant any harm.”

Taylor's performance has garnered her some attention. The singer-actress has booked two television gigs - VH1's hip-hop drama The Breaks and the cable network's game show Hip Hop Squares, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
