Sam Smith is making history as the first male solo artist to record the theme song for the James Bond series since 1965. The new track, "Writing's on the Wall," will be featured in Spectre and fans can hear the song before the movie arrives.

"This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honored to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations.  I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it," Smith said.

The In the Lonely Hour creator's song starts off like a black-and-white big picture movie, a perfect set up for a super spy like Bond.

But the British crooner, who always wears his heart on his sleeve, can't help fiddling with the theme of being lovesick. "I've been here before / But always hit the floor / I've spent a lifetime running / and I always get away / But with you I'm feeling something that makes me wanna stay," he sings.

Hopeful strings ensue as the 23-year-old moves from a smooth tenor voice to strong falsetto in the fantastical piece.

Jimmy Napes, who co-wrote Sam Smith's "Stay With Me," also loaned his pen to "Writing's on the Wall," and Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli produced the track.

James Bond composer Thomas Newman seems adamant on bringing British singers back to the forefront of the hit franchise. Adele provided the accompanying music for the 2012 effort, Skyfall. Other notables including Alicia Keys and Madonna have provided the theme music as well for former movies with "Another Way to Die" and "Die Another Day," respectively.

Spectre is set to be released in theaters on Nov. 6.
