Rihanna Slams Trump Again: ‘Don’t Let Your People Die Like This’
Eight days after Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico, life essentials like food, water and fuel remain scarce on the island. Unfortunately, there’s a struggle to get much-needed supplies to the people because of damaged roads and bridges. For the past several days, Rihanna has drawn attention to the ongoing relief efforts, and addressed President Trump's response, or lack thereof, to the crisis.
On Thursday (Sept. 28), RiRi slammed Trump for his slow response in a hard-hitting tweet, which features a photo of people in need of aid. "Dear @realDonaldTrump I know you've probably already seen this, but I just wanted to make sure! Don't let your people die like this."
The pop star also sent out a tweet praising the men and women on the frontline doing what they can to help the people in PR.
Trump's lack of empathy about Puerto Rico is staggering but shouldn't be a surprise considering his inability to understand why athletes are taking a knee during the national anthem. Nevertheless, the president did waive shipping restrictions for Puerto Rico during the hurricane relief efforts. However, as Lin-Manuel Miranda and others quickly pointed out on Twitter, the lift will only last for 10 days. "That's not enough," tweeted Miranda.
Doltish president aside, Latin artists are helping Puerto Rico in a major way. Jennifer Lopez is donating $1 million to the humanitarian relief efforts, while Pitbull loaned his private jet so that cancer patients in Puerto Rico can be transported to the United States in order to chemo treatment.
