Kanye West Changed Pusha-T’s ‘Daytona’ Album to a Picture of Whitney Houston’s Drug-Infested Bathroom
Pusha-T is set to release his newly-titled album Daytona on Friday (May 25). According to the rapper’s tweets, the project was mastered 24 hours ago, and there’s no official single. However, the LP’s artwork appears to be confirmed, and it has raised a few eyebrows.
According to reports, the Daytona cover art is a tabloid photo of Whitney Houston’s filthy bathroom filled with drug paraphernalia, including a pipe and cocaine-encrusted spoons that were reportedly taken by Bobby Brown's sister Tina Brown in 2006. And ‘Ye allegedly spent $85,000 to acquired the worldwide license for its usage, according to Pusha-T in his interview with Angie Martinez.
"1AM, my phone rings. There’s no caller ID," he says (via Stereogum). "Hey, yeah, I think we should change the artwork. And I like this other artwork. And this other artwork is 85 grand.’"
"I said, ‘Hey, I don’t want to pay for that, and I wasn’t even going to ask you to pay for that. We picked what we picked; it’s here, it’s ready,’" he said. "[Kanye responds] 'No, this is what people need to see to go along with this music. I’ma pay for dat.’ I say, ‘You my man! [laughs] You my man!’"
The Whitney Houston Estate has not yet responded to Pusha-T's cover art.
However, fans have mixed feelings about the cover art. Some people understood the symbolic meaning behind it, given King Push's content about the drug game. Other folks, are not feeling the cover and feel that it disrespects Whitney Houston, who died from a drug overdose in February 2012.
