Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child is now engaged, reports People.

After a year of dating, Williams got engaged to Chad Johnson. The pair met at a spiritual retreat in March 2017.

“I was in a horrible, dark place,” the award-winning gospel singer said about her need to visit the retreat, particularly after a rough break-up. “I just needed to go somewhere where I could get a message of hope and restoration, rejuvenation — get connected to God.”

After connecting at the retreat, Williams and Johnson kept in touch on social media, through Instagram messages and FaceTime calls before going public with their relationship in June 2017. Late last month, Johnson asked Williams to marry him, proposing with a five-carat diamond ring. Johnson, who is a pro sports chaplain, says the connection to Williams made sense

“I was getting ready to turn 40, she’s in her late 30s,” Johnson said. “Neither of us have been married, had children, and I think you just get to a place sometimes where you’re just so career-driven, so focused on what you’re doing at the moment, that it’s kind of a comfort zone. … Both of us were in very similar places on a personal level.”

Though Williams kept the relationship quiet in the beginning, she definitely has the blessing of her Destiny's Child family, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, who she recently reconnected with on stage for a surprise performance at Coachella. Beyoncé's mom, Tina Lawson, also gave the union her stamp of approval, calling them her "newest favorite couple," last year.

As for the wedding deets, the plans are for the big day to be intimate and elegant.

“She was like, ‘Can we just revel in the moment, relish the feeling? ‘And I’m like, ‘Let’s go, let’s go!'” Johnson says. “It’s gonna be … think James Bond-meets-Midsummer Night’s Dream — with a little hood in it [laughs]. It’s gonna be very traditional. We’re doing black-tie. We want it to be small and intimate and very private.”

In the end, Williams is happy to have found love.

"Don’t lose hope in love,” she said. “I do think you should not focus so much that if you’re not in love that you get depressed about it. … Just don’t lose hope. But definitely be doing what you can do to make yourself a better person for the person that possibly is on the way for you.”
