Mary J. Blige Nabs Screen Actors Guild Nomination
The nominations are rolling in for Mary J. Blige. After nabbing two nominations for the 2018 Golden Globe Awards, the singer-actress secured a nod for Best Supporting Actress nod for the 2018 Screen Actors Guild for her work in Mudbound.
The film is an adaptation of a 2009 novel by Hillary Jordan that tells the story of the relationship between a black and white family during the Jim Crow era. Blige is competing against fellow nominees Holly Hunter for The Big Sick, Hong Chau for Downsizing, Allison Janney for I, Tonya and Laurie Metcalf for Lady Bird in the category.
A day prior, the queen of Hip-Hop Soul received two Golden Globe mentions for Mudbound -- one for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song for “Mighty River.” The film itself also garnered a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
"I had no idea what was coming," Blige told EW about the Golden Globe nods. "But I did know that it was a very important movie. I’m just so grateful — too grateful."
Other SAG nominees include the movie Get Out, the ABC sitcom black-ish, along with Anthony Anderson and Denzel Washington receiving Best Actor nominations in television and film categories, respectively.
