Lupe Fiasco Name Checks Kendrick Lamar on New Song ‘Kneelin’ on Needles’ [LISTEN]

Lupe Fiasco surprised fans over the weekend with a new song called “Kneelin’ on Needles,” which seems to be inspired by former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick judging by Lupe’s tweet and cover art.

Produced by Tek.Lun, the politically-charged track boasts a soothing piano riff and a booming trap music-inspired beat. On the song, Lupe defends Kaepernick, rapping, "But, I’m back to the mentally / And it’s not about natural ability / You would think that Kaep took a shat on the Statue of Liberty, God damn."

It also appears the song may have been recorded recently since there is a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s polarizing single, “Humble.” Lupe also names two additional rappers in his verse.

"K.Dot wants stretch marks / I wanna own everything that's west of the best parts / KRIT, everything from the legs down / Mickey Factz, everything where the neck starts
Necklace, head heart, go, get set, mark, oh," he spits.

The Chi-City wordsmith also takes lyrical aim at Donald Trump and encourages other rappers to be more like Chance, who raised $2.2 million for Chicago Public Schools.

Lupe concludes, "I know I’m weird but n---- it’s real / Better to hear it from a n---- like Lu / Before you hear it from a n---- like Trump / Talking to a n---- like you," he raps.

In addition to the song, Lupe also revealed the cover art to DROGASwave, which is the follow-up to his previously released project, DROGASLight.
