Luke James isn't afraid to get emotional, especially when it comes to music.

So when the R&B crooner decided to cover a song, it only made sense to put his talents on one that shows just as much feeling -- Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me.'

Unlike the original, James' version starts off with breathy vocals that build the foundation for the lyrics. The singer's vocals get more grandiose as the track continues with layers of other voices to bring in the harmony.

This acapella version of the track adds a different gospel-like element. The 'Options' crooner also turns the line 'Stay With Me' into a hook instead of making it part of the chorus.

James isn't the first person to put his own spin on Smith's ballad. Actor Vin Diesel recently gave an emotional karaoke performance of the song while Mary J. Blige teamed up with Smith to revamp the original track into a powerful duet.

Aside from dropping this new cover song, James has been gearing up for the release of his self-titled debut album, due out on Sept. 23.
