Kanye West’s Mother Sets Precedent, Inspires New Surgery Legislation
The untimely death of Kanye West's mother, Donda West, has prompted the California Senate to apply new rules for elective surgery. The Senate announced today that they've approved a requirement that patients must be given a physical examination prior to cosmetic surgery.
According to Sen. Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles), the new legislation was in direct response to West's shocking death due to postoperative complications. West died on November 10 in Los Angeles, after undergoing an abdominoplasty -- commonly known as a tummy tuck -- and breast reduction.
"Many of us are concerned about the quality of care extended to those who receive elective surgery," Ridley-Thomas told the Los Angeles Times.
