Jay-Z and Dr. Dre

In news that could either be an April Fools prank or a legit Christmas miracle, E! Weekly reporter Michael Yo is claiming that a collaboration between hip-hop heavyweights Jay-Z and Dr. Dre is set to drop later this week. A partnering between the two would be a huge deal in the hip-hop and pop music worlds, as the closest thing to a previous collaboration is Jay's stint as a ghostwriter on popular Dr. Dre tracks such as 'Still D.R.E.'

"Look for it this week," wrote Yo on Twitter yesterday (March 29). "New Jay Z and Dr Dre!!!"

This obviously stirred up a storm of comments and follow-up questions to which Yo responded: "Everyone buzzing about it at interscope records!!"

Even while nothing is confirmed yet, You Heard That New claims that another inside source at Interscope said that the single is a surprise and that it will be an up-tempo number used to preview Dre's 'Detox' record.

For fans that have waited a decade for 'Detox,' this is a familiar position to be in. Half-truths and teasers are floating around, but there is nothing to really indicate that 'Detox' is on the way in any real form. Dre himself has set 2011 as a yet another vague deadline to finish his long-festering masterpiece. Of course, we would love to hear the King of New York going in over the King of the West Coast, and Dre did invite Hov into the studio during an interview late last year. We'll keep hope alive for now.
