Feds Will Prosecute Juelz Santana on Drug and Gun Charges
Juelz Santana is looking at some major charges following his incident at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this month.
According to the Associated Press, federal authorities will prosecute the Dipset rapper on drug and gun charges, stemming from the March 9 incident where he left a bag with a gun inside it at Newark Airport. Not only did TSA agents discovered a .38-caliber handgun in his carry-on bag, they also found oxycodone pills of which Santana had no legal prescription for.
Police said that Santana fled the airport and jumped into a cab leaving the two bags behind. He turned himself in with his attorney three days later.
Santana, whose real name LaRon James, pleaded not guilty to state charges of weapons possession and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. But the state charges were dropped as Essex County prosecutors said they would defer to federal authorities.
The 36-year-old rapper remains in custody after a judge dismissed the bond package presented by the rapper's attorney last week.
Juelz Santana could face prison time because of a prior felony conviction out of Bergen County, N.J., which prohibits him from carrying a firearm.
