DMX Assaults Officer, May Face 8 Years Behind Bars
These days it seems like DMX can't seem to catch a break when it comes to his legal problems. The 38-year-old rapper, born Earl Simmons, assaulted a correctional officer Sunday and now faces felony aggravated assault charges.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's office, X threw a tray at the officer after being accused of stealing food. Although the officer was not harmed, if convicted X could face up to 8 years in prison. This squabble comes behind a slue of mounting behavioral and legal issues for the rapper and may jeopardize his probation pending his release.
On Feb. 8, X was placed under 23-hour-a-day lockdown for refusing to report a work assignment and did not respond to a call to receive medicine. He then launched into a verbal tirade apparently agitated because he did not receive medication.
In December officials offered $5,000 to anyone providing information leading to his capture and arrest. He was later found in Miami hiding at producer Scott Storch's house. He was extradited to Arizona's Tent City Prison last month to serve a 90-day sentence after pleading guilty to animal cruelty, drug, and theft charges.
