Dead Prez member M1 has a new gig on his hands: teacher. Following in the footsteps of his fellow hip-hop colleagues Bun B and Swizz Beatz, the MC will participate in a teaching residency.

The new position will take place at Haverford College, a liberal arts school outside West Philadelphia. Sponsored by the Africana Studies program, AcadeMIX Hip Hop Symposium and other college organizations, his residency will culminate with the release of the free EP 'The Africana Music Project.'

"[I'm] excited about working on The Africana Digital Media project and doing some groundbreaking collaborative work," M1 said of participating in the Scholar-Artist in Residence program, and putting together the album. In accordance with the residency, M1 will lecture, lead creative workshops and sit on panels.

"To have him engage with faculty and students in processes of production is a creative forum for both sides, because in some ways it brings a different kind of energy to what he's doing, and it brings his kind of energy and his engagement as a performer and musician to the campus," said Jesse Shipley, the assistant professor of anthropology at Haverford.

Aside from his scholastic activities, M1 will re-link with Dead Prez member stic.man to release their forthcoming album 'Information Age,' due out later this year.
