Coachella 2012 offered hip-hop and R&B fans a wealth of surprises with the appearance of a Tupac hologram during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's headlining performance as well as a ton of stars showing up in the audience to support some of their rhyming and singing peers. Rihanna, who also grabbed the mic for a set with Calvin Harris, was among the entertainers watching shows and taking in the spectacle in Palm Springs, Calif.

Besides the 24-year-old pop star, who sang "We Found Love," jumped down from the stage to hug fellow singer Katy Perry and then proceeded to crowd-surf, rising performers The Weeknd and Azealia Banks also commanded the audience with their lyrical intensity.

The Weeknd performed an hour-long set, crooning through songs off his multiple EPs -- Thursday, Echoes of Silence and House of Balloons -- in addition to Drake's "Crew Love," sans the Toronto MC.

Banks hit the stage for her banger "212," "F--- Up the Fun," her rendition of Prodigy's "Firestarter" and a bevy of other tracks.
