Charles Barkley Gets Roasted on Twitter for His New Show ‘The Race Card’
NBA legend Charles Barkley has been tapped to host a new show called The Race Card. No, this is not an April Fools joke.
According to Shadow and Act, TNT has greenlit a six-episode run of the unscripted series, which is being described as Barkley busting up “the echo chamber mentality that so often has people retreating to corners of the like-minded, where views are reinforced and ideas are distorted into angry, unexamined groupthink conclusions.” The show is expected to launch in 2017.
"We as Americans never discuss the issue of race in this country and how it impacts everything in our lives until something bad happens," said Barkley in a statement. "I see this project as a way to talk about race, class and cultural differences and challenge everyone’s status quo."
Barkley, who already talks about basketball for Inside the NBA, is probably one of the most polarizing figures in sports for his questionable commentary on black people.
Rapper Willie D calls him a "Coon" for what he feels is Barkley's willingness to tear down black people for a paycheck.
When news of Barkley's TV show was announced, Twitter had to properly roast the NBA Hall of Famer since they feel that he is not the right person to speak on race in America.
"TNT greenlights #CharlesBarkley show about race in America called the Race Card... Expect him to make profound analogies using Oreo cookies," said one commenter. Another person tweeted, "This Charles Barkley show is offensive at minimum. Who do I throw my shoe at? Reveal yourself!"
