Chance the Rapper was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live over the weekend and he delivered one of the most memorable performances on the show this year. In addition, the Chicago rhymer became the first independent rapper to ever perform on SNL so this was a real treat.

It was speculated that Chance would perform a new song and he did. The 22-year-old rapper debuted a new track called “Somewhere in Paradise,” which features a guest appearance from fellow Chicagoan Jeremih.

Backed by the Social Experiment band, Chance delivered a jubilant and spiritual performance of the song. The Acid Rap creator even did a little GIF-worthy dance moves for the crowd.

For his second set, Chance performed “Sunday Candy” off his latest album, Surf. Chance took the SNL audience to church with his tender ode to his grandmother. He even added a Christmas melody to his rendition before wishing the audience a “Happy Holidays.”

Overall, it was a fantastic performance and pretty much confirms that Chance the Rapper is one of hip-hop's most important voices. Props to the Chi-City rhymer!
