Chance The Rapper Calls Heineken Commercial ‘Terribly Racist’
Chance The Rapper has long been vocal about injustice, and now he's calling out Heineken for what he deems is a racist ad.
The commercial under fire is advertising the beer company's variety of light beers. In the clip, a beer slides along a bar counter, passing by several people black people before coming to a stop with the words "sometimes lighter beer is better" super-imposed on the screen as a lighter-skinned, racially ambiguous woman picks up the bottle and smiles at it.
Chance says he's not saying to boycott Heineken or "go off" but that he wanted to point out how often that kind of subtle imagery occurs.
"I think some companies are purposely putting out noticeably racist ads so they can get more views," he tweeted yesterday. "And that shit racist/bogus so I guess I shouldn’t help by posting about it. But gotta just say tho. The “sometimes lighter is better” Hienekin commercial is terribly racist omg."
He went on to say he thinks companies are baiting people with insensitive ads, and he was hesitant to even tweet about it.
"Im not saying boucott them or go off im just noticing how often it happens and I think they baiting consumers and tweeters and freelancers and shit. Like I didnt wanna tweet about it so bad but its like how can u not," he wrote.
