Audi Responds to Eminem Lawsuit, ‘Video Is Not an Ad’
A U.S. spokesperson for Audi AG has responded to a lawsuit filed by Eminem's publishing company in Hamburg, Germany last week, accusing the car company of illegally using the Detroit rapper's smash hit 'Lose Yourself.'
"We believe Audi not only used 'Lose Yourself' to sell their product without permission, but their spot actually feels inspired by elements of Chrysler's commercial campaign," Joel Martin, a rep for Eight Mile Style said, referring to the highly successful Eminem-featuring campaign which Chrysler debuted during the Super Bowl XLV.
According to Audi's U.S. spokesperson, however, the ad, which was unveiled at a recent press conference for the Audi A6 Avant in Berlin, and subsequently uploaded to YouTube, is not actually an ad.
"The video referred to is not an advertisement," the Audi rep said, in an emailed statement to Yahoo! Music. "Also, this does not involve Audi of America. The video was not shown here in the U.S."
It is not yet known how Audi will respond to the lawsuit.
