BLK JKS, a South African indie band that has received much buzz in the past year, will be joined by none other than Alicia Keys to kick off the 2010 World Cup. The soulful New York songstress will join the local favorites on stage for a track called 'Too Late for Mama' -- a cover of legendary South African singer Brenda Fassie.

Fassie was considered a revolutionary champion of township life in South Africa and became a real deal local star during her heyday. Before passing in 2004, she was called "The Madonna of the Townships" by Time Magazine. Apparently, Keys was approached by the FIFA World Cup Kick Off Celebration Concert planners and wanted to link-up with one of the leading South African acts. Once she heard BLK JKS, she knew she had found the perfect fit. "Check this video of this super sick group BLK JKS," said the obviously excited Keys on Twitter this morning. "I'm performing with them at World Cup. CRAZZY!"

The fan-favorite international soccer tournament starts on June 11 and continues for the next month. Check out Keys' recommendation after the jump.
