2017 was a great year for R&B thanks to a slew of remarkable albums from both newcomers and veteran artists, alike.

R&B newbies Khalid and SZA delivered two stellar projects — American Teen and Ctrl, respectively — that spoke directly to a whole new generation growing up in the digital age.

This year also saw the return R&B veterans 112, Faith Evans, Tank and Mary J. Blige — each dropping new albums brimming with old-school R&B melodies, yet still keeping it contemporary for today's listeners.

Elsewhere, Kehlani, Jhene Aiko and Kelela released girl-power albums that boasted compelling lyrics on love and relationships.

Bryson Tiller and Trey Songz offered the male perspective on love and life on True to Self and Tremaine the Album, respectively.

Albums by Daniel Caesar (Freudian), PJ Morton (Gumbo), Sampha (Process) and dvsn (Morning After) featured great songwriting and intricate melodies that will touch your heart and soul.

Overall, 2017 was a great year for R&B music. No matter your musical taste, there's something for everyone whether you are a fan of trapsoul, traditional R&B or pop-inspired R&B.
