According to reports,Tameka Foster-Raymond, wife of R&B singer Usher, is recovering after suffering a cardiac arrest prior to cosmetic surgery. As previously reported, Foster-Raymond traveled to Brazil last week for a "simple liposuction." The 38-year-old mother of five, who gave birth to the couple's second son just two months ago, had an adverse reaction to anesthesia.

"Tameka Raymond came here on Friday to do a liposuction. Shortly after she went under [general] anesthesia, she suffered a cardiac arrest," said Ellen Dastry, a representative for the plastic surgeon who performed the procedure. Less than a minute later Foster-Raymond was revived through a heart massage.

As a precaution, Foster-Raymond was placed in a medically induced coma, which according to Dastry, is a normal precaution. "When an attack like this happens, the doctors put the patient to sleep and make sure that everything is okay and that there has not been any damage," Dastry said. "This is the protocol every time and this is what was done." Foster-Raymond was transferred to the intensive care unit before being taken to Sirio-Libanes Hospital, where she is recovering.

Following the Raymond family's privacy request, a hospital representative would only confirm that Foster-Raymond remains in the hospital.

Last Friday Foster-Raymond checked into the Sao Rafael Hospital to undergo the surgical procedure. She reportedly met with plastic surgeon Silvio Sterman on February 6 where she was determined to be in good health.

Usher Raymond who was in Los Angeles at the time, canceled his performance at Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party sighting a "family emergency." Though the star has yet to comment publicly, his representative released a statement noting that he was with his wife. "Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital. No further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time."

The couple, who were married in 2007, has two young sons Usher Raymond V and Naveid Eli Raymond.
