After a recall vote kicked Miami mayor Carlos Alvarez out of office yesterday, 2 Live Crew leader Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell has become a favorite to win the position in the upcoming election. The once-controversial rapper and label executive has a chance after Norman Braman, a billionaire businessman, orchestrated the first successful recall in the history of Dade County. More than 88 percent of voters wanted Alvarez out.

"When I take Mr. Alvarez's job, I'll review the county budget with a fine-toothed comb," wrote Luke in the Miami New Times, where he's been publishing columns over the past year. "When I ran my record company, every year we would first go over what was making revenue for us and beef that side up. Then we would cut the areas where we were not generating revenue. The first place we looked was payroll. I'll do the same with the county budget."

While mainly known to the general public as the man behind offensive hits like 'Me So Horny' and 'Hoochie Mama,' Luke has focused on cleaning up his image in recent years. Other than accusations of being a deadbeat dad and disowning his children, Luke has been coaching a football team and writing astute columns for his local paper.

That said, his past also gives a window into how he would function as a politician. "I think we can stimulate the economy with a tax on strippers," he concluded. "They make all this money and don't pay taxes. I'd take that cash and put it into a fund where it supports youth athletics for girls like cheerleading or softball."
