As fans patiently wait for Tinashe to release her sophomore effort, Joyride, the R&B princess delivers a fun cover of Tom Tom Club’s 1981 hit, “Genius of Love." Produced by DJ Cassidy, the song will appear in a spring ad campaign for Target.

The “2 On” singer stays faithful to the source material in the first verse but adds her own flavor on the second verse.

“All that weekend / Boyfriend was missing (where he go?) / I surely miss him / The way he'd hold me in his warm arms / He feels so sweet when we rock that beat,” she sings.

Comparisons to Mariah Carey's flip of "Genius of Love" for her 1995 song, "Fantasy," are inevitable, but we think the 23-year-old songbird has created her own unique cover that will get some traction in the clubs.

In other news, Tinashe will embark on her Joyride World Tour next week. The North American run of her trek kicks off in Minneapolis on Sunday (Feb. 28) and will wrap up on April 8 in Seattle.
