Nicki Minaj, Questlove, Erykah Badu, Tyrese and More Weigh in on Dallas Police Shootings
Last night (July 7) five police officers were killed in a targeted shooting during a protest against police violence in downtown Dallas. CNN reports that five officers were killed and a total of 12 officers were shot. Some of the officers injured are undergoing surgery, authorities said. One suspect involved in a standoff with police has reportedly taken his or her own life. Three other people are said to be in custody. None of the suspects have been identified yet.
Protests erupted across the nation yesterday following the police shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile—both of their horrific murders were caught on video and widely circulated. Racial tensions are understandably at an all-time high. And after the events of last night, people remain stunned, angry, confused and hurt at the outpouring of violence.
Many celebrities went on social media to express their feelings about what appears to be the unraveling of America.
"As someone with law enforcement in my family, I am just shaking," television producer Shonda Rhimes tweeted. "Senseless. Horrific. Heartbreaking."
Kevin Hart chimed in saying, "An eye for an eye leaves everybody blind."
Other celebrities reacted to the intense racial hatred that began pouring over social media following the police shootings. Ex-Congressman Joe Walsh tweeted what could only be perceived as a threat.
"3 Dallas Cops killed, 7 wounded. This is now war. Watch out Obama. What out Black Lives Matter punks. Real America is coming after you," he wrote.
Questlove responded to the threat on Instagram, wondering if we'd gone back in time, while Scarface simply tweeted that, "the revolution will be televised."
