Nick Cannon’s Comedy Special to Air on Showtime
Nick Cannon is taking his stand-up act to the small screen. The father-to-be inked a deal with Showtime to air his very first stand-up comedy special, 'Nick Cannon: Mr. Showbiz,' next month.
The show was filmed last month at the Las Vegas Palms Casino, in the midst of his already hectic schedule, which includes hosting his own radio show and running the Teen Nick network.
In spite of his multi-faceted entertainment career, the 30-year-old describes stand-up as an outlet to get things off his chest.
"I see stand-up as a therapeutic outlet to say whatever I want," Cannon told the Hollywood Reporter. "When you're up there on stage, it's no holds barred. You don't have to be politically correct. All the pressure is gone. It's just you and the microphone. People forget that I started out doing stand-up, I'm actually going back to my roots. I'm a comic at heart."
Cannon started performing at comedy clubs as a teenager, which later landed him a job on Nickelodeon's 'All That' in 2002, where he was also a staff writer.
For his special, the San Diego native will chronicle his climb to the top of the entertainment business, life with Mariah Carey and the impending birth of their twins. "I love being married to one of the most famous people in the world," he continued. "I don't take anything too seriously, and that's one of the aspects of my show. You can't be too serious because at the end of the day it's just entertainment."
'Nick Cannon: Mr. Showbiz' airs Sunday May 14 at 9PM EST.
