Micheala Coel Not Working on ‘Chewing Gum’ Season 3 Anytime Soon
Michaela Coel says she's not writing anymore Chewing Gum episodes at this time.
The breakout comedy star told her reps that she had "reached her creative peak" with the show and is focusing on some other projects right now.
"Chewing Gum is a vibrant, hilarious and unique comedy of which we are incredibly proud. Though there currently aren’t any plans for a 3rd series, we hope to work with the hugely talented Michaela Coel again soon," a representative from Channel 4 said in a recent news statement.
However, fans can hold on to hope that Coel hasn't shut down the show forever.
"Michaela is not currently writing a third series of Chewing Gum as she is focusing on some other projects, but is not closing the door to the possibility in the future," said her rep.
The British television sitcom was set in London and inspired by Coel's one woman play called Chewing Gum Dreams, which she wrote in 2012, about the comedic embellishments of her own teenage life. Just a few years later, that play would be written for Channel 4 in Great Britain and end up being distributed on Netflix worldwide.
After garnering many fans and several rave reviews, the show creator/writer/actress would go on to win two BAFTAs (the British Academy Award) for Best Female Performance in a Comedy as well as Best Breakthrough Talent.
As Chewing Gum fans poured their hearts out today on social media, practically begging for another season, Coel assured them that her work to come will be even better.
