Michael Jackson's Thriller 3D, which has been long rumored and highly anticipated by fans, will make its world premiere at the 74th Venice International Film Festival 2017.

The original iconic 1983 short film was directed by John Landis and written by Michael Jackson and Landis. The new 3D version has not been reedited or recut in any way.  Rather, Landis partnered with a team to bring the original 35mm film negative from Michael's archives into a 3D conversion using the latest available technology.  The audio and music have also been enhanced to the highest quality for big screen theater viewing, which is how Michael always intended the film to be enjoyed.

In the press release, Landis expressed, "I am so happy to have had the chance not only to restore but enhance Michael Jackson's Thriller! We took full advantage of the remarkable advances in technology to add new dimensions to both the visual and the audio bringing it to a whole new level.  Even though Thriller was shot traditionally, I was able to use the 3-D creatively.  Let me just warn you, there is a rather shocking surprise in there!"

From the start, Michael was a fan of An American Werewolf In London, and called Landis to collaborate on the Thriller project.  The original film premiered at the AVCO Theatre in Los Angeles in 1983, and sold out every night for three weeks.  The highly sought after documentary,  The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller, was available on VHS from 1983-1990, and has never been available for purchase since then.  The upcoming screening in Venice Italy will mark the first time that the short film has ever been shown in 3D along with the first ever screening of the award-winning documentary in a theater.
