Mary J. Blige Drops #TimesUp Anthem ‘Bounce Back 2.0′ [LISTEN]
Mary J. Blige is known for making anthemic songs for women and “Bounce Back 2.0” adds to her discography of empowering songs.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul released the song on her 47th birthday (Jan. 11) and it’s clearly for the courageous women of the Time’s Up movement. On the track, Mary delivers a message of empowerment to those who are fighting against discrimination, sexism and harassment.
"Ladies, let me tell you something / We come too far to lose / We'll win this battle / We suffer hard for love," she sings, adding, "Look what we're made of, beautiful scars on us / This life is what we make it / Won't change a thing / Ain't worry about it, no."
MJB brings the message home on the infectious chorus, which goes, "Life is really, really, real, yeah / I'm always ready for the bounce back (ready for the bounce back) / I ain't stressin', I'm just feeling what I'm feelin' / I'mma always be around, I don't doubt that."
Mary had the best best birthday week ever. On Sunday (Jan. 7), she attended the Golden Globes Awards where she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Mudbound and Best Original Song for "Mighty River."
Then on her birthday, the R&B veteran was honored with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. "I'm so grateful for this star right now because I've earned it probably three times," Mary said. "I say that with confidence and not arrogance. I say it because I know that now, and I know my worth, and what this means."
