Mary J. Blige Slapped With $2M Lawsuit
New York-based production company Dream Family Entertainment Inc. has slapped Mary J. Blige and Geffen Records with a $2 million lawsuit for an alleged stolen track. The company claims Blige and producer Theron "Neef-U" Feemer unlawfully used their music on the Grammy-winning singer's song 'Work That' off 2000's 'Growing Pains' album. According to the lawsuit, Feemer wrote the music for 'Work That' while under contract with Dream Family.
"Mr. Feemster created the music while he was under contract with Dream Family. Dream Family then owned the music, yet the music was used without permission in a Mary J. Blige release recording," Dream Family attorney Brian Caplan said. The lawsuit could get pretty sticky, considering the track, which was released as the album's second single, appeared in a long-running iTunes commercial.
