Mary J. Blige Not Accepted Into Howard University Afterall?

Yesterday it was reported that the reigning queen of hip-hop/soul, Mary J. Blige, had been accepted into Howard University.

In an interview with the 'New Orleans Time-Picayune,' Blige said "I just received my high school diploma yesterday [Monday]. The city of New York gave me my high school diploma ... and now Howard University has accepted me." However, when the Washington Post contacted Howard University regarding Blige's acceptance, the fabled institution had a different story to tell.

"We encourage Ms. Blige to continue her studies and welcome her consideration of Howard University in the future," a Howard rep said. "We are happy to work with Ms. Blige on completing the formal process for admission."

Blige has since tweeted in defense of her statement, claiming she has a framed acceptance letter in her possession. "For those of u that who think I would lie about being accepted in2 Howard, I have all the proof and the acceptance letter," she wrote. "Oh and my diploma, sits in my living room next to the acceptance letter, that I framed! I'm proud of my self, I should be at this point!"

We'll report with more information as the story develops, but as of now the only explanation -- if both Blige and the university are correct -- is that the R&B diva has been the victim of a cruel joke.
