M.I.A. Ends 2010 With ‘Vicki Leekx’ Mixtape
Over New Year's weekend, M.I.A. released a new mixtape that has her ending 2010 on the right note. The 36-minute mixtape features production from Major Lazor's Diplo and Switch, as well as Blaqstarr. Titled 'Vicki Leekx,' its name is said to be a play on the WikiLeaks controversy, and starts off with an intro that quotes the site's founder, Julian Assange.
"Layin bad minds to rest 2010!" M.I.A. wrote when announcing the news of the mixtape in early December. 2010 was full of pitfalls for the singer. First, a not-so positive profile labeling M.I.A. a hypocrite was published in New York Times Magazine in May, two months before her third studio album 'MAYA' was released. Later that month, the singer was forced to cancel concerts, leaving fans angry.
