Linkin Park Singer Chester Bennington Dead at 41, Reportedly Commits Suicide
Sad news to report from the music world. Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington has reportedly committed suicide at age 41, reports TMZ.
A law enforcement source told the website that the singer purportedly hanged himself in his private residence in Palos Verdes Estates in Los Angeles just before 9 a.m. PT on Thursday (July 20). Bennington was the father of six children from from two different wives.
Bennington struggled with drug and alcohol addictions at various times during his life and was a close friend to the late rocker Chris Cornell, who himself committed suicide by hanging in May. Ironically, today would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday.
Linkin Park was influential nu-metal band that garnered several chart-topping hits including "One Step Closer," "In the End" and "Crawling" (from their diamond-selling 1996 debut album, Hybrid Theory). The group will later teamed up with JAY-Z for their 2004 collaborative EP, Collision Course.
Reps for Linkin Park have no comment on the matter. The story is still developing.
