JAY-Z Drops Cinematic Films for ‘Legacy,’ ‘Smile’ and ‘Marcy Me’ [WATCH]
JAY-Z is not done yet promoting his fantastic 13th studio album, 4:44. On Friday (Nov. 24), Hov delivered three cinematic films for “Legacy,” “Smile” and “Marcy Me.” All of them are worthy of your attention.
“Legacy” is a 10-minute film starring Susan Sarandon, Ron Perlman and Jesse Williams. Written and directed by Jeymes Samuel, the visual focuses on the criminal justice system, which is an issue JAY has been outspoken about lately in regards to Meek Mill, as a group of inmates plot “The Carter Escape.”
The second film is for “Smile,” which details JAY-Z’s mom coming to terms of her sexuality. Helmed by Miles Jay, actress Dominique Fishback plays a young Gloria Carter as she tries to raise a young Shawn Carter in the crime-ridden Marcy Projects in Brooklyn, N.Y. Hov’s mother, Gloria Carter, makes a cameo at the end to recite her touching poetry on “Smile.”
Finally, “Marcy Me” is a thrilling movie that follows a police helicopter’s bird’s eye view of New York. We also watch a young boy’s trip to and from a liquor store and what he encounters during his journey on the gritty streets of Brooklyn.
Overall, the three films are artistic masterpieces of life in and around JAY-Z’s beloved hometown of Brooklyn, N.Y.
If you are keeping score, the Roc Nation mogul has released eight 4:44 visuals so far including, “Story of O.J.,” “Kill JAY-Z” and clips for the three bonus tracks on the CD-version of the album. JAY-Z has two more to release: “Family Feud (featuring Beyonce)” and “Caught Their Eyes (featuring Frank Ocean).”
You can watch the three films right now on Tidal.
