Happy Birthday, Ginuwine!
Arguably, Ginuwine is the king of lovemaking tunes. The singer, born Elgin Baylor Lumpkin (yes, like the basketball legend), turns 47 years old today (Oct. 15).
Ginuwine is mostly known for his raunchy hit, "Pony," from his 1996 double-platinum album, Ginuwine...the Bachelor, but he also struck gold with his romantic staples like "I'll Do Anything" and "Tell Me Do U Wanna."
In 1999, Ginuwine returned with his stellar second project, 100% Ginuwine, which went double platinum. The LP boasts two hit singles, "What's So Different?" and "So Anxious."
However, "Differences," from his 2001 album The Life, was Ginuwine's true ubiquitous hit. He didn't fizzle away like many of his peers from that era. His features on Diddy's "I Need a Girl (Part Two)" and Missy Elliott's "Take Away" kept him on the charts. In 2007, he teamed up with Tank and Tyrese to form the supergroup TGT. The trio was a mixed success at best; they had one hit, but it's hard to forget that infamous morning show performance.
Ginuwine has gone through some tough times since then. In 2015, he quietly finalized his divorce from his now ex-wife Solé (who has since re-married). Then in 2016, he suffered an embarrassing moment when his nude photos leaked online.
But Ginuwine hasn't stopped performing. The veteran R&B singer continues to serenade his female fans across the nation on several R&B revival tours. You can also find him on his Instagram page sharing words of wisdom and photos from his devoted fans who show love at his concerts.
Happy Birthday, Ginuwine! Turn up time, indeed.
