Eminem Is Producing New Battle Rap Film ‘Bodied’ [WATCH]
Eminem is bringing battle rap back to film. His 2002 feature 8 Mile, made nearly $250 million in the box office and highlighted Detroit's battle rap subculture. And now he's producing a new satirircal rap battle film called Bodied. The movie’s premise is to cleverly explore race relations through this battle rap subculture where insults reign as king.
Eminem teamed up with South Korean music video director Joseph Kahn to bring the film to life. Kahn has directed dozens of music videos for artists like Snoop Dogg, Missy Elliot, Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, The Black Eyed Peas and dozens more. In 2002, Kahn won his first Grammy for directing Eminem's "Without Me" video. They also won Best Video of the Year and Best Director during that same year at the MTV VMA's.
Along with Eminem and Kahn, the film was developed and written by Toronto rapper Alex "Kid Twist" Larsen who is famous for battle rapping and humorous writing in the Canadian hip-hop culture. Bodied will also feature battle circuit mainstays Dizaster, Dumbfounded, Loaded Lux, and Hollow Da Don along with cast members Anthony Michael Hall, Charlamagne Tha God, Callum Worthy, Debra Wilson, and Rory Uphold.
Bodied premieres at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2017.
