2012 MTV VMAs: Drake and Rihanna Lead With Five Nominations Each

Rihanna and Drake have each picked up five nominations for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, it was announced this morning, and the onetime -- or is it sometime? -- lovebirds will compete for this year's coveted Video of the Year prize.

Interestingly, Ri appears on "Take Care," the Drizzy track up against her own "We Found Love." Also is the running is "Wide Awake" by Katy Perry, who follows closely behind Drake and Rihanna -- leaders of this year's pack -- with four nominations.

Among Drake's other nominations is one for Best Hip-Hop Video, where he'll battle it out with Childish Gambino ("Heartbeat"), Kanye West ("Mercy"), Watch the Throne ("Paris") and Nicki Minaj ("Beez in the Trap").

Rihanna goes head to head with Perry for Best Female Video -- though they'll face some stiff competition from Beyonce ("Love on Top"), Nicki Minaj (Starships) and Selena Gomez ("Love You Like a Love Song").

A full list of nominees is below. The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 6. Fans can vote on all categories at vma.mtv.com.
