Diddy Donates $1 Million to Howard University to Start the Sean Combs Fund Scholarship
Even though Puff Daddy never finished his college career at Howard University, his love for the college runs very deep.
On Thursday night (Sept. 22), he made a huge announcement when he gifted the HBCU a whopping $1 million during his D.C. stop on the Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour. The donation money will be used to establish the Sean Combs Scholarship Fund. According to WUSA, Puff presented Howard president Dr. Wayne Frederick the check while he was onstage at the Verizon Center.
"One of the biggest blessings is getting the chance to one day be able to give back,” Combs said. “And to support the people that supported you... If I didn't get some help, I wouldn't be where I'm at today."
Despite only attending the university for two years in the 90's, in 2014, Puff earned his honorary doctorate from there.
"I didn't graduate from Howard. I was blessed to get my honorary degree but that doesn't tell the whole story,” he said. “Because the only reason why I was able to chase my dreams was the empowerment that Howard gave me, the support that they gave me, the first two years," explained Puff.
In the fall of 2017, the scholarship will kick into effect and will be awarded to students with a business major, a 3.0 GPA, and who are facing financial hardship. To make the pot sweeter, students will be given the opportunity to intern at either Bad Boy Entertainment or Combs' Revolt Media & TV network. Talk about living it up!
