The hip-hop community is currently mourning the loss of legendary New York DJ Big Kap who died on Wednesday morning (Feb. 3). The late DJ’s road manager, Ab Traxx, has come forward to reveal the cause of death.

In an interview with Billboard, Ab Traxx revealed that the 45-year-old DJ passed away from a heart attack. Ab said that he spoke to Kap on the phone the prior to his death.

"Last night when I talked to him, he was fine," he recalls. "He was on the computer at 1AM and then I got the phone call at 4 in the morning from the artist he stays with, Bank Boy Drop. He's an artist based out of Florida we was actually workin' on."

Ab believes that Kap didn't have any pre-existing health problems that would lead up to him having a sudden stroke. "He had diabetes but I don't think it had anything to do with [his death]," he told Billboard.

Before his untimely death, Kap was working on the Atlanta-based Internet radio station Highly Unique Radio and developing his artists on Burn Unit Crew. "He just got on this radio station based in Atlanta and he was basically doing the groundwork," says Ab.

Additionally, Kap just booked a 40-city tour in support of the independent artists in his Burn Unit crew. The Tunnel creator was also in the early stages of making a documentary.

Since Big Kap's death, DJs and rappers have shared their condolences on social media.

"Big kap a true hip hop Legend Kap always had good energy good vibes Big Kap is a HIP HOP ICON!" wrote DJ Khaled. "Rest in peace to my brother Big Kap. The first NY DJ to give me props and a personal friend. I'll missing smoking blunts with you fam," tweeted DJ Vlad.

We want to send our heartfelt condolences to Big Kap's family. May he rest eternally in peace.
